Judith Goodman Partner
has been a specialist family and child care lawyer for over twenty five years. She is a Deputy District Judge and a trained Resolution family mediator and collaborative lawyer.
Judith’s clients have included many top lawyers, businessmen, stage and screen actors, novelists and writers, and high-ranking civil servants. She has acted for people from and in other jurisdictions and has expertise in areas including child abduction, applications for children to live abroad, injunctions of various sorts, child issues generally, as well as divorce, cohabitation problems and financial disputes. She is known for her practical approach to problem-solving and her friendly manner.
She started her own firm, Goodman Ray, in 1985, along with Peggy Ray. Within a short time this developed into one of the first Family Law niche practices in England, and is now known to almost all family lawyers in the country in this capacity. Judith led the Divorce and Family Relationship team, as well as dealing with complex child care issues. She was also a partner with Margaret Bennett Solicitors in the West End, before establishing FLA with David McHardy in 2003.
She is a past Vice Chair of the Legal Aid Practitioners’ Group, and has sat on various committees including the Law Society’s High Street Firms sub-committee, and the North East London local law society. She was a member of the Legal Aid Board Area Appeals committee and liaised between the SFLA and LAPG for many years. She is a past Chair of Vocaleyes, a registered charity that provides specialist descriptions to allow blind and partially sighted people access to the Arts including theatres, museums, and art galleries.

David McHardy Partner
has over 25 years experience in family law, and like Judith is committed to resolving differences between parties wherever possible. He is a Deputy District Judge at the Principal Registry of the Family Division, Lieutenant Bailiff of the Royal Courts of Guernsey, and past national chair of Resolution. He is a trained Resolution family mediator and past chair of the Hackney & East London Family Mediation Service. He is also a trained collaborative lawyer.
David was a Partner at Hutchins & Co in Covent Garden from 1978, then a Partner at the Family Law Consortium for 3 years before setting up Family Law Associates with Judith Goodman in July 2003.
David is a regular lecturer and conference speaker, past editor of the SFLA Review, and has made many appearances on radio and television, including Legal Network TV and BBC2.
